On practicing

The practice consists of a small international team made up of a few acquaintances working part-time or full-time on small to medium sized projects. Collaborators are named project architects for their individual assignments, and work independently while developing an awareness of their role, as well as an awareness for the positioning of the practice and the other projects. A continuous dialogue both internally and externally is highly valued, as it stimulates an everyday consciousness of our role as architects which aids the evolving building industry and our global economy. Working in a collective manner stands centrally in nok’s practice, and so does the establishment of diversity in all aspects, some of which include gender-indentity, sexual orientation, age, and cultural heritage.

A design process involves a deep understanding of materiality and the availability of resources on a global scale, in that material selection is not only deriving from a cultural context but also the logistical and economical context for each individual project. A spatial narrative is formed holistically in pursuit of designing high quality spaces, and is maintained throughout the remaining design process where a repetition of revisiting and intuitive drawing (doing) begins to create calm, tectonic, and meaningful new architectures.
